Community Textiles

Sewing with Naturally Dyed Materials at Beetle and Fred
Sunday, November 4th, 10am to 1pm
Participants will use dyed fabric scraps to sew a kantha style pillow top, bag, or wall hanging. Swatches are layered onto a backing and then hand stitched.

The Community Textiles Project is a summer-long series of events that will teach community members how to harvest, process, create natural dyes and dye fibers. Sewing techniques and methods for mending will also be explored. Through collaboration and skill building, it is our goal to help people breathe new life into old garments and textiles in an effort to transform our local textile economy.

This workshop series is a partnership between Common Ground Farm, Textile Lab, Beetle and Fred, and Diana Mae Flowers, with generous support from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.

Sliding scale scholarships are available. For more information, contact Sember at sember@commongroundfarm.org
